Les réflexes permettent le développement ultérieur de la personne sur les plans émotionnel, cognitif, et postural. Un obstacle tel que le stress pendant la grossesse, un accouchement compliqué (trop long ou trop court, recours à la péridurale et/ou aux hormones, forceps, peau à peau absent ou insuffisant), un évènement stressant durant la petite enfance (déménagement, séparation des parents, chute, etc) peut empêcher un réflexe de se développer et de prendre sa juste place.
Sa maturation est alors suspendue, ce qui viendra parasiter l’acquisition des compétences émotionnelles, cognitives et/ou posturales.
